The linnaeus's two-toes sloth

Choloepus didactylus

The Linnaeus’s two-toed sloth is a tree-dwelling species of mammal that lives in the forests of tropical America.

Lifestyle

The sloth is a nocturnal and solitary animal. It spends its life in trees, where it eats, sleeps, breeds and gives birth.

When threatened, they can be aggressive and defend themselves with their long claws.

Distinctive features

This species has the reputation of being one of the slowest animals in the world. It is particularly vulnerable on land and can take an hour to crawl a few metres.

On the other hand, however, it can climb a tree in just a few minutes in order to escape from a predator, and it is also an excellent swimmer.

Anecdote

Its metabolism is also very slow, it takes a month to digest its food and 48 hours to mate.
