The common european adder

Vipera berus

The common European adder is a snake that can be found in France, but its range can extend east towards China and north towards Finland.

Lifestyle

The common European adder favours cool and damp environments, which explains its presence in France, particularly in the North and West. It is a rather solitary animal but it does tolerate the presence of fellow common European adders. A significant reduction in populations has been observed in recent years.
